Gamma Rays from Dark Matter
نویسنده
چکیده
I give a brief review of high energy gamma-ray signatures of dark matter. The decay of massiveX-particles and subsequent hadronization have been suggested as the origin of the highest energy cosmic rays. Propagation over cosmological distances to Earth (as would be the case in some topological defect origin models for the Xparticles) results in potentially observable gamma-ray fluxes at GeV energies. Massive relic particles on the other hand, would cluster in galaxy halos, including that of our Galaxy, and may give rise to anisotropic gamma ray and cosmic ray signals at ultra high energies. Future observations above 100 Gev of gamma rays due to WIMP annihilation in the halo of the Galaxy may be used to place constraints on supersymmetry parameter space.

Indirect Detection of Neutralino Dark Matter
Dark matter detection experiments are getting ever closer to the sensitivity needed to detect the primary particle physics candidates for nonbaryonic dark matter. Indirect detection methods include searching for antimatter and gamma rays, in particular gamma ray lines, in cosmic rays and high-energy neutrinos from the centre of the Earth or Sun caused by accretion and annihilation of dark matte...
متن کاملRobust identification of isotropic diffuse gamma rays from galactic dark matter.
Dark matter annihilation in Galactic substructure will produce diffuse gamma-ray emission of remarkably constant intensity across the sky, making it difficult to disentangle this Galactic dark matter signal from the extragalactic gamma-ray background. We show that if Galactic dark matter contributes a modest fraction of the measured emission in an energy range accessible to the Fermi Gamma-ray ...
متن کاملCosmic gamma-ray background from dark matter annihilation
High-energy photons from pair annihilation of dark matter particles contribute to the cosmic gamma-ray background (CGB) observed in a wide energy range. The precise shape of the energy spectrum of CGB depends on the nature of dark matter particles. In order to discriminate between the signals from dark matter annihilation and other astrophysical sources, however, the information from the energy...

Clusters of galaxies have not yet been detected at gamma-ray frequencies; however, the recently launched Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, formerly known as GLAST, could provide the first detections in the near future. Clusters are expected to emit gamma rays as a result of (1) a population of high-energy cosmic rays fueled by accretion, merger shocks, active galactic nuclei and supernovae, and ...
متن کاملGamma-ray Signatures of Dark Matter Particles
Indirect detection methods of dark matter particles are discussed. In particular, detection of supersymmetric dark matter through annihilation into gamma-rays is described. Aspects of the density structure of dark matter halos, important for estimating the chances of detection, are discussed. A new class of dark matter candidates, related to non-vanishing neutrinos masses and seemingly only det...
